It’s so exciting to see this project in our hands! The Geek Psychology Series arrived today, and I was so excited to open my box. In fact, I found myself pretty overwhelmed by the weight of this emotional journey from last November until this one.
I have placed quite a significant order on the original Kickstarter, which overshadowed the fast amount of time that I have contributed to the series. I wanted to hold and read the work of all the other contributors and use the books, as well as the Geek Therapy Card Deck, in my therapeutic work.
The collection is unique, incredibly helpful, beautifully edited and designed. I speak about some of those games with my adult clients on a weekly basis (Zelda, for example, is fantastic for soothing in trauma recovery), so holding those books in my library empowers me to utilise the clients’ gaming habits for their wellbeing and recovery in a much more informed way.
And then there was the actual Kickstarter special collection of The Geek Psychology Series, which moved me deeply. Personally, I was really looking forward to the second edition of the amazing “Integrating Geek Culture Into Therapeutic Practice: The Clinician’s Guide to Geek Therapy“. However, I am not going to lie – ALL five books are a fantastic resource for a geek therapist. Just look at those titles:
And finally, the big reveal is my first published academic essay in a lovely book in four formats: leather-bound (Kickstarter special when purchased in the full series collection), paperback, Kindle ebook, and Audible audiobook.
It’s not the first time my printed words have reached the public, so I feel somewhat prepared for the journey of the essay into the world. From the moment the submission was approved, its journey became independent of anything I could wish for myself. The impact of my words are now absolutely beyond my reach. However, there is something solid and comforting in seeing my words in print, in a book format. I read the chapter after 12 months of not even thinking about it too much, which gave me a good sense of perspective. You see, the writing of the essay happened at the busiest time of my life, but I prioritised it, sat down to complete the research and produced something I feel I can be proud of – I stand by every single word I wrote. I am so grateful to the Geek Therapeutics team for including it. It feels very special to be surrounded by incredible geek therapists in this book and the entire series. It feels even more important to me to have a Polish therapist’s voice published in the series, even if with an international perspective.
If you want to explore the psychology of the Witcher universe, check it out on Amazon now. I will be reading the series contributions very slowly to celebrate it – stay tuned for upcoming reviews on this blog.
A huge thank you to Jamillah and Dan for supporting me throughout the last winter season. I couldn’t have done my part without you both.
