Welcome to our short guide to counselling preferences. It is important to consider our counselling preferences when accessing therapy, so here are a few things to consider.

What if I do not like structured sessions? Or what if I really need a structure to my therapy sessions to feel safe and well? Does it matter?

Yes, your preferences are important and should be considered. Every counsellor has their own style of working in the session. However, you should be able to openly express your need for structure or for freedom from it.

Sometimes, it can be helpful to start the session with a check-on – just so that your counsellor knows how you are feeling and how your week was.

It can also be helpful to have a smooth session ending to transition back to your life. However, you may prefer fluid, spontaneous, more unstructured conversations, and that’s OK too. Your preferences matter.

If you found this helpful and consider counselling, you can book a free initial consultation on our homepage.
