I have recently completed a virtual reality training for coaching and counselling with the amazing team from ProRealVR. I am currently working with a few clients experimenting with this relatively new tool for my practice so I would like to introduce the idea of virtual reality in a few posts. First, let’s look at the technology itself. What is VR?

Virtual Reality is a three-dimensional representation of the world in the digital space. Today I would first like to look at the technology itself. There is a short introduction to it on the VR Society website. There is also a great guide on the topic published by the WIRED. If you have a moment, though, here are a few interesting video introductions to the topic. First a basic animation about VR and AR:

If you like optical illusions, this might be a great introduction to the topic:

MIT have a good introduction too:

Virtual Reality is not a new topic so it’s worth also looking at the innovation in the area:

If you want to learn more about various aspects of VR check out various YouTube channels on the topic, like this one for instance. I will be back with more practical examples of how virtual reality can be applied to various aspects of life, including mental health. Stay tuned!
