It is possible to have a therapeutic book prescription. A librarian or bibliotherapist (see booktherapy.io) can prescribe books for specific briefs. My personal holiday book prescription was incredibly useful in supporting my self-care period and recovery after a busy time of studies, for example. It helped me integrate all my learnings into my future work, as well as relax and lightly move forward with my life.

According to bibliotherapy.io, a good bibliotherapy read will need to offer three conditions:

(1) safety – clients need to feel safe to explore themes and connect with characters, not triggered;

(2) connection – the reader needs to feel validated by choice of reads;

(3) action – reading should inspire action, change, discovery, and improved self-awareness.

Can you imagine your own book prescription for the current life challenges you may be facing? Would you consider reading prescribed books?
